Recreation

Winter Activities:
With more than 250 inches of snow per year, Summit County's snowy season stretches nearly eight months each year. We have four ski resorts (Breckenridge, Keystone, Copper Mountain and Arapaho Basin) all located within a 20 minute drive from each other and all accessible via the county's free transportation system. Also, Vail is just 25 miles away. There is also cross country skiing at four Nordic centers (Breckenridge, Frisco, Copper Mountain and Keystone). Ice skating is available in Breckenridge at the Maggie Pond or the Breckenridge Ice Rink and also at the Copper Mountains Commons and Keystone Village. There are also two tubing areas, thousands of miles of back-county trails for snowmobiling, snowshoeing and skiing. Sleigh rides are offered by many of the areas. Summit County offers two huts in the Colorado Hut-to-Hut system, Janet's Cabin and Francie's Cabin. These huts are permanent backcountry shelters than can be rented on an overnight basis and are accessed by cross country skiing.

Many of us who reside in Summit County will tell you that we came for the winters, but stayed for the summers. Wildflowers color much of the landscape, wildlife roa
